Pinguino imperatore (Aptenodytes forsteri)

Emperor penguin (Aptenodytes forsteri)

This is the largest of all penguins and lives in Antarctica on the pack ice. It is exceptionally adapted to low temperatures, passing the whole year in Antarctica without migrating. It is the only vertebrate that reproduces during the Antarctic winter. Unable to fly, it seeks food (fish, crustaceans and molluscs) in the icy water, using its wings as flippers. It nests in large colonies. The male hatches the eggs and both parents collaborate in feeding the chicks.
