Molluscs

This collection holds hundreds of coloured shells, mainly from the tropics and the Mediterranean. It includes a nineteenth century collection of Tuscan land and freshwater snails and some spirit specimens. Of particular interest is a collection of cowries with carved shells, including a shankha used in Hindu rites, and an enormous giant clam, confiscated by customs and entrusted to the museum.

ADOPT OUR SPECIMENS

The Museum specimens require constant maintenance to prevent damage by air, light and microorganisms. You can contribute to their conservation by “adopting” them.
